5 Unexpected Causes of Wrinkles
1. Stress
Clearly, stress is horrible for your health, but what about your skin? When you make too much of the stress hormone cortisol, it can destroy the collagen that makes it smooth. To make matters worse, the more time you spend stressed, the much more tough it is for your skin to recover. However, the good news is if you can de-stress, the damage can be undone. That means granting yourself a time-out from busy agendas for rest, movement and self maintenance.
2. Genetics
So, if you have wrinkles, you can thank your parents; or blame them! Universally, we all age and we all lose elasticity in our skin over time, but the way in which we age is unique to each individual and is dictated by a combination of specific genes + lifestyle. Other factors, such as skin color, play a role in how your skin transforms in the passing years: The more pigmented your skin (read: more melanin), the later you are prone to the wrinkles of father time.
3. Too Much Sugar
Being gluttonous when it comes to sweets can mean good times at the dentist—and wrinkles too. Glycation is a process that can impact your levels of collagen and increase the risk of wrinkling. So, you do not have to give up your comfort food with sugar entirely, but consume it in moderation as this only becomes a problem when too much sugar is consumed.
4. Squinting
Of course, when the sun shows its face you already know to lather on the sunscreen. On sunny days, it makes you squint, which means that the muscles around your eyes are being overworked, and they can create permanent creases over time. Protect those babies by always having a pair of sunnies on hand. It is wise not to stay long on the phone or laptop too it also can make you squint and in turn develop crow’s feet!
5. Your Sleep Position
In case you lie down either flat or aside along with your face in opposition to the pillow, the stress from the pillow, is taught to put you at some point of the day and the small folds up which you create can create wrinkles in the future. Once again your collagen and elasticity are threatened to be worn out. So, to perhaps ensure it is a proper beauty sleep, you could sleep on your back, or opt for a silk pillowcase as the surface of these are more smooth, leading to fewer lines.
There you have it then, five more reasons besides the sun that might give you wrinkles. Is your skincare routine up to par?
